America is not a true democracy. I say this because it seems like three people hold all the power in the government. These three people are the President, the Speaker of the House, and the Senate Majority Leader. Any one of these three can torpedo a much-needed bill that would benefit the American people. If this were a true democracy, we’d all have a say in bills and laws being passed. We elect our representatives, but all too often, those same leaders only serve their own interests and not those of Americans. The system needs to change, but it’s up to said leaders to make the change, and they won’t — not without intense public pressure and possibly a full-scale revolt.
